Product description
This buckle is based on a historical find from Vindonissa that dates from the 2nd half of the 1st century AD. This replica is made of brass and measures 7,5 x 4,5 cm. It is suitable for belt straps with a width of 4 cm.
Roman buckles like this were typical for the belts of legionaries that were called cingulae. Buckles like this have been excavated in large numbers. Vindonissa was a Roman fort, nowadays it is called Kanton Aargau (Switzerland). It is tactically situated at the place where the two rivers Aare and Reuss come together. The fort of Vindonissa controlled this waterway between 14 and 101 AD. From the end of the 3rd until the 5th century the fort was used to protect the Roman limes from Germanic invasions.
